The Circle of Hope (COH) is a community outreach grief and loss program in Niagara Hospice, Inc. serving adults and children of Niagara County. Services are available to individuals suffering a loss through death.

The goal of the Circle of Hope is to help those who mourn to adapt to their losses in a healthy manner and develop long-term coping skills. Circle of Hope counselors recognize that grief is a normal, healthy response to loss.

The unique needs of the grieving can be addressed through counseling services, appropriate information and the warmth of a supportive presence during a very difficult time.

Circle of Hope offers:

• Individual and family grief counseling
• Community and staff education and training
• Support groups for adults and children
• Information and referral services
• Crisis intervention for schools, organizations and businesses
• Critical incident stress debriefing
• Resource materials

Because children of all ages experience grief differently from adults, the Circle of Hope provides grief counseling services specifically for children, either individually or with their families.

In addition to scheduled outreach programs, professional staff are increasingly involved with crisis interventions, particularly in instances of a sudden or traumatic death. Counselors from Circle of Hope routinely assist school personnel when the school community is rocked by a suicide or other traumatic death. It is not unusual for private employers to contact Circle of Hope when a death of an employee deeply effects the organization.

As requests for assistance from the Circle of Hope dramatically increase and Niagara Hospice confronts the challenge of supporting a growing, successful and popular social service program, financial support is increasingly important. In an effort to keep fees for service to a minimum, Niagara Hospice accepts donations on behalf of the Circle of Hope.
