In a letter dated July 30, 2005:
First, I would like to thank you and all of your co-workers … You all saved me and my family much grief by doing things that I did not know how to do. You increased her pain medication … and decreased her pain. About a week later, I heard her say the sweetest words I had ever heard. It was about one o’clock in the morning when she woke me up and I went into her bedroom to see what was the matter, and found her sitting on the edge of the bed, smiling. I said, “What’s the matter?” She said, “Nothing.” Then I asked her why she called me and she said …, “I don’t have any pain, and it feels so good I just had to tell someone.” I held back the tears and in a choking voice, I said, “I’m so happy for you.” Then I put my arm around her, ever so tenderly, for as you know, she was nothing more than skin and bone and I was afraid I’d hurt her. Then I kissed her tenderly and she put her head on my shoulder and went to sleep. This was the first time I had known her to fall asleep without pain in a few years. After about ten or fifteen minutes, I put her head down on the pillow, she opened her eyes and smiled at me and went back to sleep. By the time I got back to bed the tears were flowing freely, but, thanks to you and your staff, they were tears of joy and not tears of grief. Thanks to you and your staff, she spent the last two months of life on earth WITHOUT pain. Again, I thank you all for your help and will pray that all of you stay in good health to continue your good work, for believe me, you are there when most needed.
With much love and respect, William Andrakulic (& Ruth)
In a letter dated April 30, 2005:
We appreciated all Niagara Hospice’s guidance, help, hugs, and answers to our never-ending questions. We always were a family that wanted to know everything and especially in knowing that we were doing all we could to make Dad’s last precious days special… Such genuine caring, compassion and love – we felt it every day. We never dreamed such help was available nor how it would give Dad the dignity he deserved by letting him leave surrounded by his family and in his own room… Thank you for your organization; Thank you for those wonderful individuals who wear their badges with pride; and, thank you for sending them to us at this time. We will be forever grateful.
Included in a Thank You note:
Dear Hospice Staff, Your support made the impossible possible and gave me the strength and courage I needed to help my Dad carry his cross to the end…Thank you for all the help physically, mentally and spiritually.
Quote from Rick Pytlik from the 2004 Peggyann Pytlik Memorial Walk of Hope for Hospice:
We want to thank everyone who has come here today to help us celebrate life, and most especially to thank our Mom, wife, Nani, sister, aunt, friend, for teaching us how to celebrate life. Today is about happiness. Today is about us being together as a family and celebrating that family. Today is about helping a special group of people who have helped us when our need was greatest. (Niagara) Hospice was there for us when we needed them most. They helped us through the hardest time of our lives, and they helped guide us through what they knew we would go through. They allowed Mom to fulfill one of her dearest wishes, to be at home surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. And for that, we thank Mom and we thank Hospice for making this day possible.
In a letter dated August 24, 2004:
…For the better part of a year, my wife…received weekly care from Niagara Hospice. Surely anyone receiving hospice service is obviously in a crisis situation. During this extended period my wife and I experienced outstanding care from a number of Hospice personnel. Your care, availability and service was much appreciated. Each member of the nursing staff displayed professionalism and compassionate care… Just this short letter to document the wonderful services of Hospice, and to thank you…
