HOSPICE HEROES SUPPORT MISSION

The mission of Niagara Hospice is to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of many community members, groups and organizations, we are able to provide comfort and care when and where it's needed most. Many thanks to the following Hospice Heroes and to all our donors who have been so generous throughout the year.

FOOTBALL FRENZY BENEFITS HOSPICE

The Lockport police and Niagara County sheriff’s deputies played a rough game of flag football November 3rd to benefit Niagara Hospice. Each player made a donation to the cause to give back to the community that has continually supported them.

Lockport Police Lt. Brian Wentland (L) and Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputy Gary May (R) present a $754 donation to Niagara Hospice community development coordinator Nancy Shambach. Proceeds from the event directly benefit patients and families served by Niagara Hospice. Organizers plan to make the game an annual event to benefit Niagara Hospice - in honor of the many families from both departments that have been served by the agency.

MEMORIAL FUND BENEFITS NIAGARA HOSPICE

North Park Middle School employees and friends recently made a $500 donation to Niagara Hospice in memory of their friend and co-worker, David Highfield. He was a respected teacher in the Lockport City School District for over 30 years.

Presenting the gift to Niagara Hospice Director of Volunteer Services, Alice Beck (R), are Nancy Roth (L), North Park student Connor Evans, and Lynn Simonian. Roth and Simonian are 6th Grade teachers at North Park. Simonian holds the plaque that was purchased commemorating Highfield’s years of service and commitment to the Lockport City School District. The plaque will be placed in the spring on school grounds where 150 tulip bulbs have been planted in his memory.

CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
DRESSES DOWN FOR HOSPICE
Cornerstone employee Wendy Davis had a great idea to celebrate the season and help a great cause. Each year employees traditionally trade their uniform for a holiday sweater before Christmas. Wendy suggested that employees could also help the community by donating $5 to wear jeans with the money given to a local charity.

66 employees nominated over 20 different organizations, a testament not only to the employees but also to the many worthy groups in our community. Cornerstone President and CEO, Ann Brittin liked the idea so much, she agreed to have Cornerstone match the amount raised by employees. Over $650 was raised through the holiday dress down day. Darlene Hale, the employee who won her choice of charities, presents the donation to Niagara Hospice President & CEO John Lomeo.
