| NU AND HOSPICE OFFER FREE TELECONFERENCE |
 |
The 17th Annual Hospice Foundation of America live-via-satellite Living With Grief Teleconference will be held at 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 at Niagara University in partnership with Niagara Hospice and the Niagara University Social Work Department. The free conference “Cancer and End-of-Life Care” will feature a panel of experts who will address care options related to cancer diagnoses as well as loss and grief reactions for patients, families and professional care-givers. The teleconference will also examine psychosocial aspects of cancer, pain management, and ethical issues related to the disease.
Moderated by Frank Sesno, Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, the program will be broadcast on the NU campus in room 350-351 of Bisgrove Hall.
Each year the Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) presents a nationally recognized distance learning program, live via satellite, to more than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities. For more than a decade, this annual FREE educational program has been instrumental in educating health care professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care. It also provides an opportunity for a wide variety of professionals – including doctors, nurses, ethicists, educators, clergy, social workers and bereavement counselors – to share and exchange ideas and obtain continuing education credits.
Noted authorities joining the panel with Mr. Sesno include Yvette Colón, PhD, MSW, Malene Davis, MBA, MSN, RN, CHPN, Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv, Richard Payne, MD, Sherry R Schachter, PhD, FT, and Brad Stuart, MD.
The teleconference is produced by the Hospice Foundation of America, a not-for-profit organization which acts as an advocate for the hospice concept of care through ongoing programs of professional education, public information and research on issues relating to illness, loss, grief and bereavement. This year the program is being held in cooperation with Adventist Communications Network, Association for Death Education and Counseling, National Association of Social Workers, Dignity Memorial Funeral Providers, and George Washington University Programs in Grief, Loss and Life Transitions.
Continuing education contact hours (CEs) will available; instructions and details will be provided at the March 24 conference. To register for the free conference or for more information, call the Niagara University Social Work Dept. at (716) 286-8520.
